Despite legal obligations, 58 mayors in the Dominican Republic have failed to submit their mandatory asset declarations a year after being elected, according to a report by N Digital. This lack of transparency raises concerns about potential corruption and illicit enrichment.
N Digital reports that the failure to comply with the requirement undermines public trust and hinders accountability within local governments.
Most of those that have not met the requirement are city mayors from municipalities located in the southwestern provinces, especially in Barahona, Bahoruco, Independencia and Pedernales. City mayors in Azua and San Pedro de Macoris have failed to report.
N Digital lists the names of those who have failed to comply with the legal requirement.
