Minimum wage hike of phased-in 20% approved

The National Wage Committee (CNS) has approved a 20% increase to minimum wages for the non-sectorized private employees, as proposed by President Luis Abinader during a recent weekly press conference. The increment will be applied in two stages: 12% in April and 8% in February 2026.

Approximately two million workers will benefit from this wage boost.

The announcement was made at an event led by the President and Labor Minister Eddy Olivares, joined by representatives from the tripartite dialogue at the Labor Ministry.

Discussions on the wage increase for non-sectorized private workers are scheduled every two years. This year the tripartite (government, labor and business) meeting started with the proposal of a 20% increase from President Abinader, which was immediately supported by union representatives calling for a 30% hike.

During the final meeting, the business sector, represented by the National Employers’ Confederation (Copardom), led by Laura Peña Izquierdo, countered with a 10% proposal. This prompted a response from President Abinader, who reaffirmed his commitment to the 20% increase and pledged to continue advocating for it.

Breakdown of 2025 increment by company size:
• Large enterprises: A 20% increase would raise the minimum wage from RD$24,990 to RD$29,988 monthly.
• Medium-sized enterprises: Employees would see their minimum wage rise from RD$22,908 to RD$27,489.6 pesos.
• Small enterprises: The minimum wage would increase from RD$15,351 to RD$16,886.
• Micro enterprises: A 20% increment would lift the minimum wage from RD$14,161 to RD$16,993.

• Agricultural workers: Daily wages would rise to RD$714 for a 10-hour workday, up from the current RD$595.
