
Representing Team Medellin – EPM of Colombia, cyclist Oscar Sevilla rode into Santo Domingo for the final 112 km phase of the 2025 Independence Cycling Tour. The 48-year old experienced Spanish-Colombian cyclist was the undisputed champion of the tour. He was followed by Yesid Pira of the Dominican Republic (Inteja Imca Ridea DCT) and his fellow team member Wilmar Paredes (Team Medellin – EPM).
Sevilla had been the runner-up champion of the race when he competed in the Vuelta de la Independencia in 2019.
The race ended on 2 March 2025 in Santo Domingo. The race is one of the most important in the Central American and Caribbean region.
The 46th edition of the Vuelta Ciclística Independencia Nacional had begun on this Monday, 24 February 2025 with the participation of 136 riders from 10 national and 13 international teams that would race all around the Dominican Republic.
The premier cycling competition in the country took place in seven stages all around the country and was organized by the Federación Dominicana de Ciclismo, presided by Jorge Blas Díaz.
The first stage departed from the Velódromo Nacional at the Centro Olímpico Juan Pablo Duarte, including the Santo Domingo-Baní-Circunvalación El Higüero route.
The second stage was held on Tuesday, 25 February, featuring the Santo Domingo-San Pedro de Macorís-La Romana circuit, with a start from Seaboard on the Malecón.
On Wednesday, 26 February 26, stage 3 began at the Banreservas branch on Avenida Winston Churchill, tackling the mountain route of Santo Domingo-Villa Altagracia-Rancho Arriba.
Stage 4 was a closed circuit at Parque Mirador Sur on Thursday, 27 February.
Stage 5 took the cyclists to travel from Santo Domingo to San Pedro de Macoris and then the Circunvalación El Higüero.
Stage 6 was a Santo Domingo-Circunvalación El Higüero route on Saturday, 1 March.
The Dominican cycling tour concluded on Sunday, 2 March, with the closed circuit at the Expreso Quinto Centenario in Santo Domingo.
