Footgolf kicks off in the Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic’s first footgolf course is now open at Playa Nueva Romana, tournaments are already happening. Golf and soccer fans in the Dominican Republic can try out the new hybrid sport to enjoy thanks to the opening of the nation’s first FootGolf course at the Playa Nueva Romana residential community that is half an hour from the capital city and La Romana.

The innovative course, officially certified by the International FootGolf Confederation (COIFG) and the new Dominican FootGolf Federation, blends the excitement of soccer with the precision of golf. Players use a size 5 soccer ball to kick toward the hole in as few shots as possible, navigating natural and artificial obstacles along the way.

The game played on a golf course in which a football is kicked into a series of large holes, the object being to complete the course using the fewest possible shots. Lessons are available at Playa Nueva Romana.

“FootGolf combines the best of both sports,” said Carlos de Linares, who is the general manager of PGA Ocean’s 4, Playa Nueva Romana’s 18-hole golf course. “We’re thrilled to be the first FootGolf course in the Dominican Republic and host many tournaments in the months and years ahead.”

The Playa Nueva Romana course is set within lush green spaces, challenging players with hills, bunkers, and water hazards while framing the landscape of the PGA Ocean’s 4 Executive Course.

FootGolf is accessible to all ages and skill levels, appealing to families seeking fun, friends looking for a friendly competition, and corporate groups wanting a unique team-building experience.

This past February, the first elite tournament for the sport was held at Playa Nueva Romana.
