
Colombia is the third largest source market for tourists to the Dominican Republic, behind the United States and Canada. In 2024, more than 336,000 Colombians visited the DR. Travel in 2024 was up 9.9% compared to the previous year.
To take advantage of low cost fares by competing airlines, thousands of Colombians are visiting Dominican destinations and the same numbers of Dominicans are traveling to enjoy the attractions of Colombia, that is also a gateway for other South American destinations. Dominicans are attracted by shopping for Colombian apparel and leather goods, and the low cost of the gastronomy and lodging industry, including nightlife for the young set. Colombians come for the shopping of global items and the beach resorts and gastronomy.
In this trip to Colombia for Anato, the Ministry of Tourism promoted hikes to Pico Duarte, the highest peak in the Caribbean.
The Ministry of Tourism announced during the recently held Vitrina Turística Anato 2025, the leading annual Colombian travel show that Colombian tourism has contributed US$800 million to the Dominican Republic GDP, as reported in Diario Libre.
