The National Passport Agency backed down from moving to the Naco area of the capital city from its present location on the Malecon. Residents in the Naco area had complained the agency would worsen the traffic congestion. The new offices would have been at Epokal 253 building on Av. Roberto Pastoriza.
The Passport Agency says it needs to relocate to adequate installations for the implementation of the electronic passport. The electronic passport is a fundamental requirement for the DR to be exempt from the Schengen visa. The passport agency says the new location must guarantee security and high technology for the setting up of a data center. The passport agency says it is looking into other options.
