The General Prosecutor’s Office for the Electric System (Pegase) and Edesur Dominicana have seized more than 6,000 electricity meters during several operations aimed at dismantling illegal connections in neighborhoods across Greater Santo Domingo. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to combat electrical fraud.
As part of the operation, Pegase has transferred an initial batch of 976 seized meters to Edesur. The remaining meters are undergoing a thorough verification process before being re-integrated into the electric distribution system, ensuring more efficient use of resources.
The meters were recovered during a series of raids where various types of electrical fraud were detected. Edesur and Pegase continue to collaborate to enhance the effectiveness of their efforts, with the goal of reducing the electrical losses caused by illegal connections.
This crackdown is part of broader measures under the General Electricity Law and its regulatory framework to address electrical fraud.
