Carlos Peña suggests government use his political party funding to purge fraudulent IDs

Christian pastor turned politician Carlos Peña, leader of the Servants Generation Party (GenS), announced on Tuesday, 4 March 2025 that his organization will renounce state funding allocated by the Central Electoral Board (JCE). This decision comes despite GenS’s emergence as a significant independent political force following the 2024 elections.

Peña called on the JCE to use the funds rejected by GenS to improve the Civil Registry, revoking fraudulently obtained nationalities, and to bolster efforts against illegal immigration and border protection.

He made the announcement of renouncing the political party funding when speaking at the Altar de la Patria. Peña claims that in the nation’s 181-year history, no political party has ever rejected public funds, but he wants to be the first to make a statement against partisan spending.

Peña declared that GenS will not partake in the “10 billion peso dance” – the vast sum to be distributed among political parties over the next four years. He argued that these resources should remain in the hands of taxpayers rather than fueling partisan spending.

“We cannot be complicit in a system that grants economic abundance to parties while the Dominican people continue to live in poverty,” stated the former legislator, who is positioning himself as his party’s presidential candidate.

Peña said the country’s three major political forces — the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), and the People’s Force — will receive RD$8 billion of taxpayer money.

Peña urged other parties to follow GenS’s lead and reject state funds, so these funds can be allocated to critical areas such as health, security, and education.

“If they truly have empathy and solidarity with the people, they should renounce these resources and allow them to be invested in the country’s urgent needs,” he asserted.

The GenS leader emphasized his party’s independence and its representation of citizens seeking a different kind of politics, one based on transparency and commitment to the Dominican people’s well-being.

With this stance, GenS has positioned itself as the first party in Dominican political history to reject public funds, pledging a management style that, according to its leader, is rooted in independence and public service.
