Vehicles for environmental patrols

The Ministry of Environment has provided the National Environmental Protection Service (SENPA) with a fleet of 10 pickup trucks and 20 motorcycles. This donation aims to reinforce SENPA’s patrol and surveillance capabilities, crucial for combating environmental crimes throughout the nation, the Presidency reports.

The official handover took place at the Ministry of Defense, with Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Paíno Henríquez, and Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, presiding over the event. Brigadier General Ángel Alfredo Camacho Ubiera, director of SENPA, accepted the vehicles on behalf of the service.

“These vehicles will enable SENPA to respond more efficiently to citizen complaints and address environmental threats with greater speed,” stated Minister Henríquez during the ceremony. He emphasized the donation fulfills a commitment made upon assuming office, highlighting the necessity of strengthening SENPA to better serve the community.

“We are obligated to protect our environment, and to do so, SENPA requires the necessary equipment to perform its duties effectively,” Minister Henríquez asserted. He also announced that the second phase of SENPA’s equipment upgrade will focus on improving the living conditions of its personnel.

“This is not the end; the Ministry of Environment will continue to support SENPA. This is a direct mandate from President Luis Abinader, and we have fulfilled that mission today and will continue to do so to the best of our ability,” Henríquez affirmed.

Minister of Defense Fernández Onofre underscored the significance of the donation, acknowledging SENPA’s role as environmental guardians and their dedication to Dominican society.

“The daily work of SENPA officers in the mountains and various protected areas is appreciated by the public and the country. These vehicles will strengthen and facilitate their efforts,” Lieutenant General Fernández Onofre stated, pledging continued support for SENPA due to the positive outcomes resulting from the collaboration between the two ministries.

This equipment donation to SENPA demonstrates Minister Paíno Henríquez’s unwavering commitment to environmental protection since taking office.
