
The Senate is scheduled to vote to choose the five new members of the Chamber of Accounts this Thursday, 3 April 2025.
Guillermo Lama, the president of the committee that is evaluating the three groups of five members submitted by the Chamber of Deputies, will submit a report with its recommendations in time for a vote on the shortlist on Thursday.
The procedure is for the Chamber of Deputies to prepare the shortlist for the Senate to take the final decision.
75-year old Emma Polanco, the former state university (UASD) rector, is regarded by the media as a frontrunner to be chosen for the government auditing body. Emma Polanco is a graduate in accounting from the UASD. She has a doctorate in applied economics from the Universidad del Pais Vasco in Spain, and postgraduate studies in cost accounting and tax accounting. She worked for several years as an accounting professor at the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (Intec) before returning to work at her alma mater.
She has served as administrative vice rector at the UASD from 2011 to 2014 and then again in 2014. She was then elected the first woman rector of the UASD serving from 2018 to 2022.
