The Dominican government continued over the past week its extensive immigration control and security operation in the Friusa sector of the Bávaro tourist district. On Saturday, 3 April 2025 a major operation involving significant military and police deployment was unfolded. The authorities announced permanent presence in the area would be maintained. The forces conducted targeted actions and reinforced surveillance levels as part of a national strategy to regulate land use and enforce the General Migration Law, as reported in El Caribe.

During the intervention, over 300 individuals in irregular migration status were detained and subsequently transferred for verification and repatriation, in accordance with due process.

The operation was spearheaded by the Migration Agency, the Dominican Republic Army, the National Police, and Ciutran (the task force of the Police), in coordination with intelligence agencies.

This action follows up on operations initiated earlier this week in Friusa and neighboring areas such as Mata Mosquito, Villa Playwood, and Haití Chiquito, regions noted for their high concentration of undocumented immigrants.

Through these interventions, the government aims to regain control of vulnerable urban spaces where conditions have arisen that negatively impact coexistence, security, and access to employment opportunities for Dominican citizens.

As reported, during the operation, access points to the sector were reinforced, constant patrols were carried out, and checkpoints were established to ensure the effectiveness of the initiative. This measure prevented escapes and ensured complete coverage of the area during the designated intervention period.

Authorities reiterated that these actions are being carried out with strict adherence to human rights and within the framework of current legal regulations. They also emphasized the support of local communities, which have positively appraised the intervention as a concrete response to concerns expressed during the recent “Patriotic March” held in the same area on Sunday, 30 March 2025.
