As part of efforts to keep Easter Week vacations safe, the Ministry of Tourism announced security measures for international and domestic tourists. To safeguard local and international tourists, Resolution DJ/002-2025, issued by MITUR, reinforces restrictions on various activities at beaches nationwide from Monday, 14 April to Sunday, 20 April 2025.
The directive explicitly prohibits the operation of aquatic vehicles such as jet skis, wave runners, and banana boats. Additionally, the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages on the beaches by street vendors is banned, and all parties and events are prohibited at beaches and public swimming areas across the Dominican Republic.
The resolution, titled “Special Regulations during the Holy Week 2025” is applicable to tourism establishments, including hotels, restaurants located in tourist zones, activity operators, and areas comprising the beaches and resorts of the Dominican Republic.
There is a ban on the use of motorcycles, four-wheelers, and other motorized vehicles on beaches. The establishment of tents and similar temporary structures on beaches is also forbidden.
While parties and events remain prohibited at beaches and resorts, hotels organizing events are mandated to have a security plan in place to ensure order is maintained for their events.
The sale and distribution of alcohol by street vendors at beaches and during excursions is strictly prohibited. However, controlled alcohol sales will be permitted during daytime hours at complementary activities such as water parks and theme parks, but will be banned from 6pm to 6am daily throughout the Holy Week vacation time.
Furthermore, all beaches and public swimming areas nationwide will be closed daily from 6pm to 6am during the vacation time covered by the resolution.
The MITUR directive also reminds hotels and resorts of their obligation to adhere to the safety and hygiene standards outlined in Regulation 2115 and its subsequent modifications. Similarly, restaurants are required to comply with the safety and hygiene conditions stipulated in Regulation 2116.
The seventeenth section of the resolution tasks the Tourism Police (POLITUR) with ensuring the strict enforcement of these measures. MITUR has also requested the collaboration of the Ministry of Defense, the Dominican Republic Navy, the National Police, Civil Defense, the Emergency Operations Center (COE), and all other relevant Dominican state institutions to ensure the successful implementation of these safety protocols.
The Ministry of Interior and Police had already announced the banning of large parties on beaches and vacation sites as part of preventive measures. Resolution No. MIP-RR-0001-2025 bans all major partying activities, public and private, in beaches and public swimming areas from Monday 14 to Sunday 20 April.
The sale of alcoholic beverages is banned for the complete 24 hours of Good Friday that falls on 18 April 2025.
