
The Ministry of Labor recently announced that the minimum wage for domestic service was to be increased by 30%, going from RD$10,000 to RD$13,000 per month. Since many people employ domestic help on a day-to-day basis, the El Dia newspaper has calculated the daily rate at RD$546 per day. This new pay scale goes into effect on 1 May 2025.
However, in fact, most day workers will not work for less than RD$800 to RD$1,000 per day, plus transport. And live-in help will be far more expensive. There are about a quarter of a million persons involved in domestic service.
