
Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez said that the Dominican Republic is in a good position to negotiate the 10% tariff the United States has levied on Dominican exports. He made the remarks when asked to tell about the results of the first meeting in Washington, D.C. he attended last week at the US Trade Representative Office together with Industry & Commerce Minister Victor (Ito) Bisonó and Minister of Hacienda Jose Manuel (Jochi) Vicente.
The high-ranking Dominican mission met with the leading authorities of the USTR to discuss the new tariffs. Alvarez said that given the considerable US trade surplus with the Dominican Republic, the country hopes to negotiate for the removal of the tariff that mainly impacts free zone exports.
