The Minister of Foreign Relations of Russia, Sergey Lavrov arrived at around 10pm on Tuesday, 29 April 2025 for his official visit to the Dominican Republic. He is the highest-ranking Russian official to visit. On his agenda for Wednesday, 30 April in Santo Domingo is a visit to Foreign Minister Robert Alvarez at the Ministry of Foreign Relations. He will then visit with President Luis Abinader at the Presidential Palace.
During his visit, Lavrov will inaugurate the Russian Embassy in the capital city. The visit commemorates the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries. Alexey Seredin is the new Russian ambassador.
