Fernando Tatis Jr, Juan Soto, Manny Machado and veteran Robinson Cano are all possible candidates for the key role of captain of the DR team in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. The last and only time the DR has won the World Baseball Classic was in 2013, when Robinson Cano was the captain of the team. He also served as captain in 2017 and as co-captain in 2023 with Manny Machado.
The United States already announced that Aaron Judge would be the captain of the US team. And Puerto Rico said that Francisco Lindor would be their captain.
An analysis in El Dia by sportswriter Bienvenido Carmona Jr concludes that the two individuals who deserve the position the most are Manny Machado and Juan Soto. Juan Soto played in the 2023 team.
The manager of the team is Cooperstown Hall of Fame slugger Albert Pujols, and the general manager is Nelson Cruz.
