Ironman 70.3 was a success, will repeat in 2026

Javier Figueroa of Puerto Rico took the 2025 Cap Cana Ironman 70.3, repeating his previous victory. He clocked 4 hours, four minutes and 55 seconds. Second best was Diego Arteaga of Ecuador and Mathieu Teoret of Canada, as reported by Punta Cana Bavaro News.

Erick García Rossi made history as the first Dominican to finish the race. Argentine Brenda Schaupp finished as the first for women in the event.

The winners praised the local hospitality and race setup. The organizers even claimed an entire stretch of the Coral Highway, for the safety of the bikers.

Athletes from 43 countries participated this 2025. Around 200 local competitors registered for the competition.

The Ironman will be back on 17 May 2026 in Cap Cana, announced the organizers, SBR Sports.

The Ironman 70.3 is regarded as a more family-friendly event than the world renown Ironman race. The Ironman 70.3 is a shorter 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim, 56-mile (90 km) bike, and 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run, totaling 70.3 miles. The full Ironman race covers a 2.4-mile (3.8 km) swim, 112-mile (180 km) bike, and 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run, totaling 131.8 miles. The Ironman 70.3 is roughly half the distance of a full Ironman.

Athletes are recommended to start with the Ironman 70.3 before proceeding to train for the Ironman race.

The event was a plus for Dominican tourism. El Dia reports that it moved around US$7 million in revenues. Around 900 athletes came to compete, with an average of 3.7 in their party, with high spending for accommodations and the extreme sport itself. Wilber Anderson, CEO of SBR Sports said that the event promotes healthy tourism and educates through sports, as reported in El Dia.
