DNCD confirms shipment of 3 tons of marihuana was from Guatemala

The president of the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) Vice Admiral Jose Manuel Cabrera Ulloa said that the shipment of three tons of marihuana seized at the East Haina Port had been loaded in Guatemala. He rejected the statement by the government of Guatemala that denied the shipment had been loaded in Guatemala.

“We limit ourselves to inform that the container was loaded in Guatemala. The security seal was placed by the exporter company and is the same with which the shipment arrived to Haina Port. We also have constancy that the merchandise was purchased by a Dominican citizen who appears as the owner of the shipment,” said Cabrera Ulloa on 12 May 2025.

In Guatemala, Minister Francisco Jimenez had denied the shipment of 3,004 packets of marihuana was from his country. Yet the Dominican authorities say they have evidence the shipment was loaded in Guatemala on 16 March and would later make a stopover in Panama on 25 March where it remained until it was shipped to the Dominican Republic.

The load was included in a shipment of sand for cat liters. It is the largest of marihuana seized in the Dominican Republic.
