Ministry of Tourism funds Santiago campaign

Tourism Minister David Collado announced RD$90 million in funds to enhance destination Santiago. Santiago is known as the country’s premium cigar capital, for its medical tourism facilities, gastronomy, cultural and ecotouristic attractions. Collado said the vision is to extend the brand to promote conventions and sports events.

Of the funds, RD$60 million will be used for improvements to the Monumento a los Heroes de la Restauracion, the iconic monument overlooking the city of Santiago. Another RD$30 million will be used to promote the Santiago branding, Visit Santiago. Also planned for this year are improvements to the historic center of the city, the Santiago Marathon and the Typical Music Festival.

Likewise, the Cibao International Airport in Santiago, privately-owned and operated, is presently undergoing an investment of US$800 million for its remodeling and expansion. The airport continues to attract direct flights that connect the central Cibao region to major airports worldwide.
