Clinica Abreu announces mega medical center for Av. Winston Churchill

President Luis Abinader and Minister of Public Health Victor Atallah held a virtual ground-breaking event from the InterContinental Hotel on Av. Winston Churchill to mark the beginning of construction on a state-of-the-art private medical facility, the new Clínica Abreu CDD, El Caribe reports. The Clinica Abreu has been a leader in medical emergency services and other medical services from its location in Gascue, where decades ago most of medical centers were located.

Now, Clinica Abreu owners announce an association with Grupo CDD and GE HealthCare International for the expansion to a new facility on 27,000 square meters at a location on Av. Winston Churchill and Av. Romulo Betancourt in the capital city. The facility will have 20 above-ground floors and eight underground levels.

Dr. Servio de Peña, president of Clínica Abreu’s board of directors; Dr. Wilson Mourad, CEO and founder of Grupo CDD; Elie Chaillot, president and CEO of GE HealthCare International; and Jesús Fernández, executive president of Clínica Abreu shared details of the new center during the announcement.

The complex will offer comprehensive medical care integrating technology, innovation, accessibility, and intelligent architectural design. Services will include hospitalization, surgery, outpatient care, diagnostics, specialized units, and more than 10,000 square meters of parking, ensuring a functional and efficient experience for patients and medical staff alike.

The ceremony at the Intercontinental Hotel brought together prominent authorities, healthcare leaders, and strategic partners to unveil the clinic’s transformative vision: a health model incorporating robotic surgery, nuclear medicine, radiotherapy, advanced diagnostic imaging, and, for the first time in the country, a teragnosis unit—cutting-edge technology combining diagnosis and treatment in a single clinical setting.

Clínica Abreu CDD is betting on medical tourism. The center aims to be Santo Domingo’s first privately owned clinic with international projection, seeking to elevate medical care standards not only in the Dominican Republic but throughout the Caribbean region.

Dr. Servio de Peña, the president of the Clinica Abreu board, highlighted: “Our commitment here is to the health of all, to the capital, to its people, to its doctors, to the country, to the grandeur of this project, which will make a significant contribution to consolidating healthcare throughout the region.”

Another partner of the medical association, Dr. Mourad announced plans for a new radiotherapy imaging center in Plaza Megacentro, Santo Domingo Este, later this year. By 2026, they aim to operate a new cyclotron for advanced diagnostic imaging services in Santo Domingo Oeste and establish another center in Punta Cana.

“Let it be clear: there is no rest here. We are coming to invest, to work, and to build the future with ARS, local banks, our patients, and over 300 doctors,” Mourad stressed. He further underscored Clínica Abreu’s potential to boost health tourism in the Dominican Republic, presenting an ideal opportunity for patients from the Lesser Antilles, Central America, and the Caribbean.
