The Ministry of Culture confirmed that the 27th Santo Domingo International Book Fair (FILSD 2025) will take place from 25 September to 5 October 2025 at the Juan Pablo Duarte Cultural Plaza. The event, announced by Culture Minister Roberto Ángel Salcedo during a press conference on Wednesday, 14 May 2025, will honor renowned historian Frank Moya Pons for his significant contributions to Dominican history and cultural identity.
Moya Pons, author of the history textbook “Manual de Historia Dominicana” (Dominican History Manual), is widely regarded as one of the country’s foremost contemporary historians. This year’s fair will focus on children’s literature, positioning it as a platform to explore international trends, approaches, and perspectives in this genre.
FILSD 2025 will feature the Latin American Network of Literary Fairs and Festivals as its guest of honor, further solidifying Santo Domingo’s role as a hub for book promotion and reading in the region. According to Minister Salcedo, the event will formalize the organizational structure of this network, which has seen substantial growth and impact over the past decade, spanning both the Caribbean and mainland America.
Accompanied by Vice Minister of Cultural Identity and Citizenship Ramón Pastor de Moya, the general director of Books and reading Aquiles Julián, and director of Book Fairs Joan M. Ferrer, Minister Salcedo highlighted the participation of French writer Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, winner of the 2008 Nobel Prize in Literature. Le Clézio, author of over fifty works including short stories, novels, essays, translations of Hindu mythology, and numerous prefaces and commentaries, is one of contemporary literature’s most recognized voices.
For ten days, the Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2025 will bring together a vast array of national and international authors, solidifying its position as a forum for dialogue, cultural exchange, and literary reflection. With this ambitious program, FILSD 2025 is set to be a key meeting point for Latin American literature and another opportunity for the Dominican Republic to demonstrate its commitment to promoting reading and access to knowledge.
