Dominican Republic and Haiti border officials and the “Frontera Caribe” project emphasize the need to view the shared border region as a space for life and prosperity. The “Frontera Caribe” project, led by the Autonomous University of Barcelona, aims to improve education, research, and journalism related to the Dominican-Haitian border.
Following a tour of development projects showcasing government and private sector interest, representatives, including Erick Dorrejo from the Ministry of Economy and Spanish journalists Santiago Tejedor, David Jiménez, and Álvaro Laforet, highlighted the area’s potential for economic growth through trade, tourism, manufacturing, and agriculture.
The group visited key sites like the Manzanillo port, energy plants, the border fence, the Dajabón market, and ITESIL. Tejedor stressed the importance of new narratives focusing on the people and stories within the border region.
Dorrejo underscored the government’s focus on public policies enabling residents to live and work locally through initiatives like the MiFronteraRD strategy, promoting sustainable tourism and agro-industry.
