The Ministry of Interior and Police reports that there is a significant increase in foreigners acquiring Dominican citizenship.
For instance, a Ministry of Interior & Police press release explains that in a recent oath of allegiance ceremony, 82 individuals from 30 countries officially became Dominican citizens on 20 May 2025. The event was held at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra auditorium, with the participation of Minister of Interior & Police Faride Raful taking the oath.
The newly naturalized citizens hail from across the globe, with origins as far-flung as Pakistan, Bulgaria, South Africa, Vietnam, Russia, and Croatia, alongside those from Spain, Italy, France, and the Netherlands. The Americas were also well-represented, with individuals from North, Central, and South American nations.
Nations with the highest number of new citizens include Cuba, Peru, Spain, and Colombia, each contributing eight individuals. Russia, Italy, Venezuela, and the United States each saw six of their nationals naturalized, while Pakistan added four.
During the naturalization ceremony, Minister Raful implored the new citizens to elevate the Dominican Republic through their work. She urged them to love, protect, and defend the nation, emphasizing the importance of respecting its Constitution, democratic principles, and laws, and contributing to the maintenance of order and justice.
“We are a country full of hope and dreams,” Raful stated. “A country that is currently the safest in the Caribbean and aspires to be the safest in all of Latin America. I want you to be part of this initiative to give our children a better country than the one we inherited.”
