
New efforts of the Ministry of Public Health now under Minister Victor Atallah seem to be bearing fruit. The Ministry of Public Health is reporting seasonal lows of dengue cases, despite the consistent rains. The Ministry of Public Health has held major educational campaigns and has purchased mosquito-busting equipment for use in vulnerable areas, creating new awareness.
The Ministry of Public Health announced a significant decrease in dengue fever cases across the Dominican Republic, despite confirming two new cases in young children this past week.
During epidemiological week 19, two five-year-olds, one each from Puerto Plata and San Cristóbal, tested positive for dengue. This brings the total to 13 cases reported over the last four weeks, marking a substantial 73.5% reduction compared to the same period in 2024.
So far this year, the nation has confirmed 94 dengue cases. The provinces with the highest incidence rates are Espaillat with 14 cases, followed by Puerto Plata with 9, and Valverde with 7.
