First Lady Raquel Arbaje met with Princess Leonor de Borbón on Thursday, 22 May 2025 at the Port of Santo Domingo. The Spanish heiress had arrived in the Dominican Republic aboard the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano. The visit is part of Princess Leonor’s naval training with the Spanish Armada.
Arbaje described the encounter as a “close and enriching” experience, expressing the nation’s honor in hosting the future Queen of Spain and the crew of the iconic vessel.
“Being able to tour this ship, learn its history, and share with its people allowed us to connect with a legacy of commitment, vocation, and service,” the First Lady stated.
The visit is seen as a reinforcement of the historical and cooperative ties between the Dominican Republic and Spain.
From Santo Domingo, the ship sails to New York for the last leg of the training trip.
