Learn all about cigars, rum and food in the DR at the Feria Agroalimentaria

Cigar lovers are invited to visit the Feria Agroalimentaria 2025 to take place 28 to 31 May 2025 at the Dominican Fiesta Hotel in the capital city. The Tabaco Institute (Intabaco) has coordinated the participation of 15 tobacco industry companies.

The cigar industry participation is just one of the many sectors participating in the Feria Agroalimentaria is regarded as the pivotal event for the food, tobacco and beverage sectors.

The biennial event has a reputation as an essential gathering for industry professionals and consumers eager to explore the latest trends, production advancements, and market innovations.

The upcoming fair will feature over 200 exhibitors, showcasing a vast array of products, from fresh fruits and vegetables to processed goods and beverages.

The fair is organized by the Junta Agroempresarial Dominicana (JAD) and ProDominicana, the Dominican government export and investment center. Biviana Riveiro, director of ProDominicana has highlighted the strategic importance of the agricultural sector to the nation’s economic and social development. In 2024, agricultural exports surged to a historic US$3.27 billion, marking a substantial 17.7% year-on-year growth.

Dominican agricultural products currently reach 150 international markets, supported by more than 1,217 exporters. Notably, tobacco exports alone accounted for US$1.34 billion annually, with cocoa beans bringing in US$464.3 million and edible fruits contributing US$342.3 million.

Agroalimentaria 2025 will offer a comprehensive look at the industry. Attendees can expect to see an extensive variety of tropical fruits, greenhouse and oriental vegetables, condiments, spices, processed foods, coffee, and cocoa. Dominican cigars, beer, and rum will also be prominently featured. The fair is designed to foster networking and collaboration among all stakeholders in the value chain.

The event’s agenda is packed with activities, including technical sessions aimed at updating participants on key economic aspects of the sector. ProDominicana is facilitating business rounds with over 100 international buyers from 26 markets. A dedicated Tobacco and Rum Hall will showcase premium Dominican cigars, while a Gastronomic Festival will feature renowned local chefs. Additionally, a series of conferences and workshops will provide further insights and learning opportunities.

The Agroalimentaria 2025 Organizing Committee boasts broad institutional backing, including support from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Foreign Relations (Mirex), the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, the Ministry of Tourism, the Customs Agency (DGA), and the Dominican Institute of Agricultural and Forestry Research (Idiaf). Other key supporters include the Institute of Innovation in Biotechnology and Industry (IIBI), the Center for Agricultural and Forestry Development (Cedaf), the Tobacco Institute, the Dominican Association of Exporters (Adoexpo), the Caribbean Export Development Agency, the “Exporta Calidad” Program, the American Culinary Federation, and the Dominican Association of Chefs (Adochefs).
