New National Vehicle Retention Center now in operation

President Luis Abinader inaugurated the National Vehicle Retention Center (Cenarve), located on the Santo Domingo West off the Santo Domingo Beltway in La Cuaba, Pedro Brand municipality on Saturday, 24 May 2025. The modern facility, constructed by the Ministry of Housing and Buildings at a cost of RD$625 million, replaces the outdated El Coco Racetrack impound lot.

Spread across 141,000 square meters, Cenarve has capacity for 826 vehicles, 1,203 motorcycles, and 15 tow trucks. The state-of-the-art center also includes areas for vehicle scrappage, a workshop, waiting room, mechanical and paint shops, storage, offices, and a fuel station.

“With projects like this, the central government clearly demonstrates the importance it places on public order and the safety of Dominican citizens,” stated Danny Santos, Vice Minister of Construction at the Ministry of Housing and Buildings, during the ceremony.

General Pascual Cruz, director general of Transit and Land Transport Security (Digesett), explained that vehicles impounded at Cenarve will be meticulously inspected and secured with guaranteed integrity and security, documented through digital photographic and written records.

Meanwhile, Milton Morrison, executive director of the National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (Intrant), emphasized that the new center represents a significant upgrade from the previous system. “Cenarve will make it much easier for citizens to retrieve their vehicles in a single location,” he affirmed.
