Update on the JetSet Club tragedy

Headline news over the Mother’s Day holiday shares the heart-moving message of a mother who lost her only offspring, her daughter Alexandra Grullon due to the collapse of the roof of the capital city night club. The president of the Sur Futuro Foundation, Melba Segura wrote the message. Alexandra Grullon had attended the Rubby Perez merengue concert that evening at JetSet accompanied by her husband Eduardo Guiaronex Estrella, her brother Eduardo Grullón and his wife Johanna Rodríguez de la Cruz, all victims of the 8 April tragedy.

Over the weekend, the media announced the death of 33-year old Army captain Alba Maria Montero Rojas who had been in intensive care for 46 days at the Hospital Traumatológico Doctor Ney Arias Lora. The husband of the young woman and four other friends or family on the same table at the nightclub, also died that evening.

El Dia in its update on the tragedy writes that there are still too many unanswered questions. The government has yet to release the official report on what happened with expert opinions on what happened. The prosecutors have yet to make known whether the owner of the nightclub, Antonio Espaillat has been summoned for questioning in the investigation.

Espaillat is said to be the owner of half of the radio stations in the Dominican Republic. He usually attended the live Monday concerts but this time was abroad at a convention in Las Vegas. He kept anonymity even when he returned on the same day of the incident. He has only spoken for a pre-taped interview with a TV journalist, Edith Febles.
