
Top-seeded Canadian tennis player, Volodymyr Gurenko lived up to expectations, capturing the Caribbean Cup J100 Santo Domingo title on Saturday, 24 May 2025.
Gurenko dominated American eighth seed Shaan A. Majeed in the final, securing a decisive 6-2, 6-1 victory. The triumph earns Gurenko 100 ranking points.
The women’s crown was claimed on the previous Friday, 23 May 2025, by Isabelle Thi DeLuccia of the United States.
The tournament, officiated by Cuban Abel Álvarez as referee and Dominican Francisco de los Santos as assistant, was organized by the Dominican Tennis Federation (Fedotenis).
The Caribbean Cup marked the end of two weeks of junior tennis action in Santo Domingo. Last week, the Trinitaria Cup, also held at the National Tennis Center in Parque del Este, saw competition in both singles and doubles for players aged 18 and under.
Earlier on Saturday, Italian Miriana Tona and Bolivia’s Noelia Zeballos, the top seeds in the women’s doubles draw of the W35 Santo Domingo tournament, prevailed 6-0, 6-3 over third-seeded Italians Francesca Pace and Zuzanna Pawlikowska at the Santo Domingo Country Club. The W35 event offers a prize pool of US$30,000 and 35 ranking points to the champion.
