Casa de Teatro, on the Arzobispo Meriño Street, in the Colonial City invites to the summer jazz performances on Thursdays from June through July.
Now in its 26th edition, the festival has been a cornerstone of Dominican and international jazz since 2000.
The festival kicks off on June 5th with the Jonn Reyna Trio, led by Dutch pianist Jonn Reyna, a recognized figure on the local jazz scene and professor at the International School of Contemporary Music at UNPHU. His style blends gospel, soul, fusion, and bebop.
The following week on June 12th, the Sebastián Murena Trio takes the stage, featuring Argentine guitarist Sebastián Murena, a master of swing, bebop, and hardbop.
June concludes with two more captivating performances: the Eliezer Paniagua Trio on June 19th and the Sebastián Mueses Trio, a young talent who has participated in events like Fiesta Sunset Jazz, on June 26th.
July promises an exciting lineup of diverse artists and established talents. On July 3rd, Dominican-French pianist and composer Thelonious García will grace the stage. Following his recent debut album release, “Marche nocturne,” at Casa de Teatro, García, trained at McGill University and Parisian conservatories, represents the new generation of internationally-trained Dominican pianists.
One of the most anticipated performances is Diomary en Jazz on July 10th, where the acclaimed Dominican artist will explore the genre.
On July 17th, Negra Candela takes center stage. Spanish pianist Andrés Barrios follows on July 24th, with his music that merges jazz and flamenco.
The festival concludes on July 31st with Rafael Mirabal, a key figure in the development of jazz in the Cibao region. A Dominican pianist, composer, and arranger, Mirabal’s performance will be a fitting end to this exceptional musical journey.
Casa de Teatro, founded in 1974 by writer Freddy Ginebra at 110 Arzobispo Meriño Street in the Colonial Zone, has been a nurturing ground and launching pad for countless Dominican artists. Celebrating its 50th anniversary last year, the institution remains committed to accessibility and cultural development without economic barriers.
The Santo Domingo Jazz Festival was born out of a vision to promote Dominican ensembles and make jazz accessible to all. Over two decades later, Casa de Teatro stands as the epicenter of Caribbean jazz, attracting both established and emerging artists from around the world.
The 2025 edition promises to uphold this tradition of excellence, offering a diverse musical experience in one of the country’s most iconic cultural spaces.
