
A chaotic scene unfolded Wednesday, 28 May 2025 during a Migration Agency (DGM) raid on a Chinese-owned store, where authorities aimed to detain Haitian nationals working there without proper immigration status, Diario Libre reported.
The incident occurred at the Mudan store on Duarte Avenue in the capital city. Videos circulated online showing store owners and employees attempting to prevent the detention of Haitian workers and even assaulting the prosecutor assisting the DGM operation.
National Police officers deployed pepper spray to disperse the crowd that had gathered outside the store. A Chinese national also appears on the ground as bystanders help her.
Diario Libre reported that the raid that was carried out to identify and detain foreigners working illegally, primarily Haitians, resulted in chaos and violence when met with opposition from the store owners.
