Foreign Relations Minister Roberto Alvarez announced the Dominican Republic and the InterAmerican Development Bank (IADB) will host the 5th Business Summit of the Americas in early December 2025. This event, a precursor to the 10th Summit of the Americas to which heads of government are invited, will bring together business and political leaders to promote private enterprise and sustainable development. The event will be held in Punta Cana.
Among the issues that will be discussed is the management of the mining of rare earths and other strategic minerals, the conditions needed to secure investments which will touch on security and the future of the region’s financial systems.
The announcement was made after a successful meeting of the Americas Business Dialogue, hosted by the IADB and the Ministry of Foreign Relations in Santo Domingo. These talks brought together 70 businesses and industry associations, to set the stage for the Business Summit in December. Among the issues highlighted by the private sector in the Americas Business Dialogue were the importance of critical minerals for regional development; conditions for promoting investment, particularly regarding security; and the future of financial systems in the hemisphere.
During the Business Dialogue, Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez reaffirmed that the private sector plays an essential role in growth and in the promotion of the economic development of the region. For this reason, the Tenth Summit will provide a prominent space for the Business Forum, which will take place just before the start of the political dialogue between heads of state and leaders of the private sector. Minister Álvarez also hopes that the Tenth Summit will serve as a forum for promoting cooperative solutions to the most significant regional challenges, such as the fight against narcotrafficking and illegal migration.
The IDB—which has successfully led the organization of business forums in previous sessions of the Summit in Cartagena (2012), Panama (2015) and Lima (2018)—supports this process in close coordination with the Dominican government, recognizing the strategic role of entrepreneurship in the recovery and transformation of the continent’s economies.
