Las Americas Airport management fosters win-win solution for traditional taxi drivers and Uber drivers

Uber has partnered with Aerodom, the managing company at Las Americas International Airport (AILA – SDQ) and Sichala, the airport’s taxi company, to enhance mobility at AILA and provide a better experience to travelers.

Effective immediately, travelers landing at SDQ will encounter clear signage guiding them to designated Uber pickup points. These areas are differentiated for premium service Uber Select and other options like UberX, Comfort, UberXL, and Uber Planet.

“We understand how crucial it is for tourists to feel comfortable and well-oriented upon reaching a new destination,” said Laura Santillán, general manager of Uber for Central America and the Caribbean. “Through this partnership with strategic allies, we aim to make that first journey from the airport easier and more accessible. This alliance further demonstrates our ongoing commitment to revolutionizing mobility in the country’s tourist zones and strengthening the ecosystem connecting visitors with destinations.”

An exclusive waiting and promotion area for registered Uber driver-partners has also been established approximately five minutes from the airport. This space allows drivers to wait for ride requests comfortably.

“At Aerodom, we constantly strive to elevate the passenger experience and ensure a smooth and secure arrival in the country,” stated Mónika Infante Henríquez, CEO of Aerodom. “This alliance marks a significant step towards more organized, efficient, and visitor-centric mobility, reinforcing our commitment to a modern, connected airport aligned with international best practices.”

Tito Pérez, general secretary of Sichala, highlighted the alliance’s impact on modernizing the tourist services his organization has offered since 1966 while enhancing the quality of service for Uber app users. “Uber’s technology empowers us to elevate the tourist taxi experience while preserving its core values and strengthening our service,” Pérez emphasized.

Sichala-affiliated tourist taxi operators can register as Uber Select driver-partners. This integration grants them access to over 30 safety features available on the app, including PIN trip verification, real-time ride sharing, and a 911 emergency button. All Uber trips are insured by Mapfre BHD Seguros, with coverage activated from the moment a driver-partner accepts a ride request until the last passenger exits the vehicle.

With this alliance, Uber Select, already operational in popular destinations like Punta Cana, San Pedro de Macorís, Juan Dolio, and Boca Chica, expands to AILA, connecting more tourists with drivers at one of the country’s primary international gateways.
