Prosecutors have concluded their presentation of evidence against suspended Tampa Bays’ slugger Wander Samuel Franco Aybar and Martha Vanessa Chevalier Almonte, the mother of a teenage victim of sexual abuse, wrapping up with the presenting of 165 pieces of evidence of wrongdoings.
During the fourth day of the trial, which includes charges of child sex abuse against Franco Aybar and charges of sexual exploitation and money laundering against the victim’s mother, prosecutors Claudio Cordero and José Martínez emphasized the strength of their case. They expressed confidence that the evidence presented is sufficient for a conviction.
“The prosecution’s experts clearly established conversations between the accused parties, confirming the sexual abuse perpetrated by Franco Aybar and the mother’s acceptance of payments to remain silent and allow the relationship with her daughter to continue,” stated Cordero and Martínez.
They further highlighted that evidence also linked the mother to charges of sexual exploitation and money laundering involving her own daughter.
Experts from the Criminal Investigation Unit (UIC) of the Public Ministry, the prosecution arm of the Attorney General Office, detailed for the Puerto Plata Collegiate Court the process of analyzing electronic devices seized during raids connected to the case.
