President Luis Abinader returns after European and South American trip

After a week spent traveling in Europe and Brazil, President Luis Abinader returned to the Dominican Republic. On this trip he was accompanied by First Lady Raquel Arbaje.

During the time spent in Europe, the Dominican President met with French President Emmanuel Macron and Jordan’s King Abdala II, as well as the heads of the World Trade Organization and the World Labor Organization in Switzerland.

In Brazil, Abinader met with President Lula da Silva and signed agreements of cooperation and collaboration.

Among the leading talking points in all of these meetings was regional stability and the situation in Haiti, social justice and regional and international cooperation. Local issues such as the sargassum seaweed that covers many of the beaches not only in the Dominican Republic and other tourist destinations was mentioned. Other big issues that were covered during the very intense tour were the development of transportation (France offered to build railroads in the Dominican Republic, the environment, and international cooperation, mainly aimed at the situation in Haiti.
