On 13 June 2025, Minister of Public Works Eduardo Estrella personally visited Constanza to oversee the government’s response to recent landslides on the Constanza mountain road, specifically on the Casabito-Constanza road, the main access to the prime farming area.
Accompanied by vice ministers of Supervision, Infrastructure, Maintenance, and Regional Affairs, along with a team of specialized technicians, Estrella’s presence underscored the Ministry’s commitment to addressing the critical situation.
The Ministry of Public Works (MOPC) has been actively involved in continuous monitoring of the terrain and clearing debris caused by intense rains in the past two months. At kilometer 10, the site of the most significant landslide, a single-lane traffic flow has been established with proper signage. Geotechnical and structural engineers are conducting studies to implement a permanent solution for this critical point.
The ongoing work is being coordinated closely with local authorities and includes a special schedule to facilitate the passage of light vehicles and agricultural transport, ensuring traffic flow while engineering work progresses.
Before these recent events, the MOPC had already been undertaking paving and patching work on various sections of the highway, prioritizing areas with significant deterioration. This comprehensive plan also includes replacing protective guardrails to enhance safety along the entire corridor.
The MOPC urges drivers using this mountain road to exercise extreme caution due to persistent adverse weather conditions in the area.
