As of 2 June 2025, the US Customs and Border Protection enabled the Central Romana Corporation to resume shipping sugar to the United States. The US Customs and Border Protection modified the withhold release order that had been issued in 2022 for raw sugar and sugar products made by the Central Romana.
The ban had been issued on grounds that the sugar that was sold in the US under the Domino brand had not significantly improved its labor practices. The USCBP later says that the decision followed “documented improvements in labor standards”. The announcement was made initially in March 2025 and went into effect this month, as reported in Diario Libre.
