At least 23 luxury beachfront luxury villas in the Caleton Villas section of the hotel and residential area of Cap Cana, Caleton Villas, were destroyed by a significant blaze on Wednesday, 3 July 2024, Diario Libre reported. There were no injuries nor deaths, but the damages are in the millions as the fire spread to several villas before it was contained.
Preliminary media reports point to an exploding gas tank.
The Caleton Villas residential area was the first to be developed and was known for its wooden buildings and thatched roofs.
Cap Cana is the southernmost development in the Punta Cana area. It is located about 10 km from the Punta Cana International Airport.
