Intrant installs signage for traffic control now on Lope de Vega

Just a few hours before the new traffic rules regarding left turns at three key intersections on Lope de Vega Avenue in the heart of the National District went into effect, the National Transport and Transit Institute (Intrant) put up effective signage to assist drivers. The no left turn signs went up at the three most important intersections, Padre Fantino Falco, Gustavo Mejia Ricart and Max Henriquez Ureña.

At the same time, signs were put up to assist drivers find alternative routes to these important streets.

On the streets, there were agents from the National Traffic Safety Agency (Digesett), the entity that oversees the enforcement of the traffic laws. The plan is that the agents educate the drivers who may be confused about the new routes to be taken.

On Sunday, 6 July, these new rules went into effect as part of the first phase of the attempt to organize traffic in Greater Santo Domingo.

The alternate routes laid out by Intrant go through residential areas some commercial areas of both the Naco and Piantini sectors of the National District.

The attempt at reducing traffic jams is called “RD is Moving.”

Diario Libre reported on how the streets to be used in the alternate routes are filled with parked cars. As a result, some people are expressing the idea that even more chaos will result. Only time will tell.

Commuters are getting the next week to get to know where the Digesett will be enforcing compliance with the traffic laws.
