Security experts come for public security meeting in Santiago

The Eighth Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Public Security in the Americas (MISPA VIII), an initiative of the Organization of American States (OAS), will take place 16 to 17 July 2025 in Santiago de los Caballeros, the Dominican Republic’s second largest city.

The high-level forum brings together ministers, security experts, and government officials from across the region to advance collaboration on critical issues of public safety, police reform, and cybersecurity.

The main objective of MISPA VIII is to strengthen multilateral dialogue around “Police Reform and Transformation for Citizen Security with Social Participation”. The meeting will focus on two key thematic areas: police reform and cybersecurity, in response to the growing need for States to enhance their capabilities in these fields.

MISPA VIII aims to establish itself as an ideal forum for the updating of public security strategies, the development of effective multilateral cooperation frameworks and the strengthening of mechanisms for sharing information and experiences among States.

Since its inception in 2008, the MISPA process has become the premier regional space for addressing the complex and evolving challenges of public security in the Americas. Through ministerial dialogue and technical cooperation, MISPA fosters unified strategies around:
Community-based policing and public trust
Modernization and reform of security institutions
Regional cooperation in digital security and cybercrime
Information sharing and coordinated policy action

MISPA VIII is expected to deliver key resolutions and joint strategies that reflect the shared priorities of member states as they navigate new threats and social demands.
