22-year old Junior Caminero, the slugger of the American League’s Tampa Rays, becomes the seventh Dominican reserve announced for the Major League Baseball’s All Star Game of 15 July 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia. Four Dominicans have been named to the starter rosters.
Caminero was not initially named to the American League team, but he was selected as a replacement for injured Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman.
As reported, Caminero earned the honor by slashing .252/.294/.496 with 21 homers, 19 doubles and 57 RBIs in his first 86 games this season. As matters stand, if Caminero hits one more double this week, he will be the first player in franchise history to record 20 doubles and 20 homers before the All-Star break.
The Dominican starters in the MLB All Star Game are first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Toronto) and third baseman Jose Ramirez (Cleveland) for the American League. The other two are second baseman Ketel Marte (Arizona) and third baseman Manny Machado (San Diego) for the National League.
The seven Dominican MLB reserve players for the game that is also known as the Midsummer Classic are now Junior Caminero (Tampa), Elly de la Cruz (Cincinnatti), Fernando Tatis Jr. (San Diego), Julio Rodriguez (Seattle) and Jeremy Peña (Houston) and pitchers Freddy Peralta (Milwaukee) and Randy Rodriguez (San Francisco).
