Interior and Police Minister Faride Raful announced during her weekly Monday press conference on 14 July 2025 significant reductions in both homicides and robberies across the Dominican Republic. These positive trends are attributed to the collaborative efforts of the Security Task Force.
Minister Raful shared these updates following a meeting of the Citizen Security Plan follow-up committee, which was led by the Vice President Raquel Peña, at the National Police Headquarters.
Raful reported that the national homicide rate has fallen to 8.2 per 100,000 inhabitants, showing a consistent downward trend. This marks a notable improvement compared to previous years, where the rate was 12.29 in July 2023 and 9.96 in July 2024. The Minister emphasized that this continuous reduction is a direct result of enhanced preventative and operational measures implemented nationwide.
“Most provinces are green on the heat map, indicating that 26 provinces have single-digit homicide rates, while only eight remain above the 10-threshold,” Raful explained. “We are intensifying our interventions in those areas.”
Regarding robberies, a substantial improvement has also been observed. To date, 43,486 complaints have been registered. This is a reduction from the 47,309 reported in 2024 and 52,312 in 2023. This means that between 2024 and 2025, there have been 3,823 fewer robberies, solidifying a positive trend in the fight against this type of crime.
