People irregularly parked may return to find their vehicle towed away and a bill of RD$5,000 to get the vehicle back. The government has contracted a private towing company that will receive RD$4,000 for the towing and storage and the Digesett will receive RD$1,000 of the total billed. The fine covers the cost of towing, transportation, storage, and retention of vehicles removed from public spaces.
The measure goes into effect on 4 August 2025 in the Poligono Central, the dense commercial and residential area of the capital city. It is part of new actions to improve the flow of traffic under the RD Se Mueve program.
The state-managed trust Parquéat_RD announced on Sunday, 20 July 2025 that the new fee structure complies with Article 242 of Law 63-17 and is intended to improve traffic flow, reclaim public space, and promote urban mobility.
Since July 1, Parquéat_RD has been operating an educational phase in the expanded Polígono Central area, warning drivers about illegal parking without issuing fines. That phase ends in early August, when full enforcement begins.
