The Chamber of Deputies has approved, after a second reading, a legislative proposal that of people are in favor of the legislation, and there are several group that are opposed. The proposal was first introduced back in August 2024. The idea is to codify for once and for all, the many processes surrounding rental and lease agreements.
By clearly establishing such things as deposits, rental or lease terms, and obligations, the law seeks to end the seemingly infinite variations that have been created over the years by real estate brokers and property owners.
One of the prime concerns was the amount of surety deposits would be legal. According to reports, the deputies agreed on a three-month deposit. Upon learning of the approval of the legislative proposal, the Dominican Association of Housing Promoters and Builders (Acoprovi) heartedly approved, telling reporters that the deputies recognized the value of their suggestions and these were included in the piece.
Sectors have protested that the bill gives very similar treatment to rentals for commercial and residential properties.
