Renovations on Francisco Caamaño Deñó Street in Las Terrenas

Tourism Minister David Collado officially was in Samana on Friday, 25 July 2025 for the inauguration of the newly repaired and illuminated Francisco Alberto Caamaño Deñó Street in Las Terrenas, Samaná. The road follows the beach-studded coastline all the way to Playa Las Ballenas, on the western side of Las Terrenas.

The renovation work focused on repairing the existing paving in deteriorated areas, stretching from Pueblo de los Pescadores to Golf Project Street. Additionally, 2.45 kilometers of Francisco Alberto Caamaño Deñó Street were illuminated with the installation of new lighting fixtures and aluminum poles designed to resist salt corrosion.

Minister Collado stated that this project is part of the Ministry of Tourism’s ongoing efforts to intervene in various tourist enclaves, thereby making a positive impact on local communities. “Interventions like this benefit visitors to the area, but they also change the lives of its residents,” Collado emphasized.

He expressed his belief in sustainable tourism, where residents of different destinations benefit from the economic impact of “a sector that represents more than 15% of the Gross Domestic Product.”

Las Terrenas Mayor Eduardo Esteban Polanco highlighted the project’s significance. This improvement will make the area safer and more inviting, positively impacting the local economy.

The intervention’s primary goal is to ensure user safety and enhance the tourist experience by providing fully illuminated access and improving the area’s aesthetics.

The project was carried out by the Executive Committee for Tourist Zone Infrastructure (Ceiztur) at a total cost of RD$30,744,397. Under the current administration, the Ministry of Tourism has invested over RD$1.8 billion in 21 projects across Samaná province, 17 of which have already been completed.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by provincial and municipal authorities, tourism entrepreneurs, and community leaders, among others.
