Colonial City restaurants sign on for free two-hour service for their patrons, elsewise it’s RD$100/hour

The newly opened Parqueo Plaza Colonial at Calle Arzobispo Meriño corner Avenida Mella is offering up to two hours of free parking for customers who dine at affiliated restaurants and bars in the historic Colonial City. Participating establishments validate parking tickets. Users who exceed this time will be charged a standard fee of RD$100 per additional hour.

“This solution is designed to improve mobility while directly supporting local commerce,” said Ian Rondón, executive vice president of AFI Reservas, the firm managing the investment fund behind the public-private project, as reported in Diario Libre.

The parking facility has been operational since 1 August 2025. It operates 24/7 and has 352 parking spaces, 10 electric vehicle charging stations, public restrooms, a car wash, accessibility ramps, climate-controlled elevators, and round-the-clock security.

The facility also offers free electric shuttle service to the Colonial City’s historic center every hour. The parking area is on the north side of the Colonial City and about a km away from the Santo Domingo Cathedral in the center.

For employees, residents, and long-term visitors, the facility offers a fixed monthly rate of RD$4,000, covering two 12-hour shifts: from 7am to 7pm, and from 7pm to 7am.

The US$16 million project was financed through the Fondo Cerrado de Desarrollo Reservas I, composed of private institutional capital. Its operations are managed by Panama-based Grupo TX, a firm with over 40 years of experience in managing urban parking infrastructure across Latin America.

Additional amenities will include seven retail spaces, a rooftop terrace with a restaurant, and an on-site office of the National Institute of Traffic and Land Transportation (Intrant), which will provide services such as driver’s license renewals.

As part of its security measures, the parking facility will restrict motorcycle access. Only high-end motorcycles will be allowed inside the premises. All other motorcycles must use a designated external parking area, which has been specially set up for security reasons.
