President Luis Abinader confirmed the opening of the Bani bypass road for Thursday, 14 August 2025. The road cuts about half an hour of the time to reach Baní from Santo Domingo in the East or Azua in the West. Commuters not headed to Bani can avoid having to cross through the traffic-congested city and save big on time.
The President made the announcement when participating in an interview for the Corripio Group on 6 August 2025. He explained the bypass is part of seven bypasses that have been built or are under construction in his administration.
The Bani Bypass is 19 km long and has 17 bridges. It was the missing leg after the Santo Domingo, San Cristobal and Azua bypasses were completed. Travel from Santo Domingo to Barahona, in the southwest, will now take at most 2.5 hours. To reach Pedernales, now under major tourism development, further south, the government is also improving the Barahona-Enriquillo road.
