There are new rays of light for the children that have been victims of the Jet Set tragedy. The governmental Conani and the Alexandra Grullon Foundation have announced initiatives for the orphaned children of the collapse of the roof capital city nightclub. The management of the club is accused of negligence in taking corrective measures in time or canceling the fatal concert on the evening of 8 April 2025.
Now, four months after the devastating tragedy at the Jet Set nightclub, the National Council for Children announces a special summer camp has been arranged for the 54 children and adolescents who lost their parents in the fire. The week-long camp has been designed to offer the children solace and new skills. The camp will be held in Don Honorio, National District.
In addition to entertainment and fun, a dedicated team of psychologists, nurses, and doctors will be on hand to provide professional support. The children will also be cared for by 40 trained substitute mothers, who were specifically selected to fill this crucial role during the camp.
This initiative aims to bring a sense of normalcy and joy back into the lives of these young victims, offering them a chance to heal and grow together.
Paralel to the Conani effort, Melba Segura de Grullon announced the first scholarships of the Alexandra Maria Grullon Fund she set up to honor the memory of her daughter and son-in-law who were among the victims in the roof collapse.
The scholarships are intended for orphaned children, siblings who lost family members, and wives who were widowed in the tragedy.
The fund was established in honor of Melba’s daughter, Alexandra María Grullón, who died in the nightclub roof collapse on April 8. Its purpose is to provide educational support to those most in need.
In an Instagram post, Segura shared several photos of her only child Alexandra and her son-in-law, Eduardo Guarionex Estrella Cruz, the son of Minister of Public Works and former Santiago senator Eduardo Estrella, who also died in the collapse.
In her message, Segura wrote: “Time is moving on, and it’s been four months, but I don’t even feel what day or night, morning or afternoon, Monday or Friday is. The emptiness that your friends and family feel is getting bigger and bigger, my daughter. Do you remember those earrings you wanted so much? I had already bought and wrapped them as a surprise gift for your birthday. They will be here as a symbol that we were, are, and will be one.”
