The Dominican Republic is a country where the authorities for decades have looked the other way and allowed motorcyclists to blatantly violate traffic laws. Now Listin Diario points out the situation is on the verge of getting worse.
The newspaper focuses on the impact of thousands of minors driving motorcycles that adds to the local security problem.
Motorcyclists are behind 80% of traffic accidents, but the government has yet to begin to enforce these comply with traffic regulations. Thousands of motorcyclists themselves have been maimed or have died in the clashes. Minors driving motorcycles with the same lenience of the authorities will increase the local security risk.
The government has yet to install available technologies to correct the situation and rely on Digesett agents who seem to have been instructed not to let the motorcyclists be.
