Public schools reopened in the Dominican Republic for the 2025-2026 school year on Monday, 25 August 2025. Private schools are allowed flexible back-to-school dates and many had started earlier.
The Ministry of Education says that 2,664,028 students are registered for the next school year in the public, private and hybrid systems.
The Ministry of Education this year is opening morning and afternoon sections at several public schools, eliminating the afternoon classes to give way to the increased demand for classrooms.
